No special treatment .. just basic preperation i.e add loads of well rotted cow manure turned into the bed along with some top soil and regular watering.
I’ve suggested to T we start to think about putting out an honesty box at the bottom of the lane rather than having to compost the excess.
Next time we’ll only grow a couple of plants so we don’t get such a glut.
Suggestion for cucumber dressing:
Start with a base of good vegetable oil and add to it a teaspoon of white wine vinegar. (Go easy on the white wine vinegar as it can spoil the dressing) Appreciate some people like to use extra virgin olive oil but we find the taste overpowers the other flavour)
To this we add:
Aromat seasoning, pepper and a sprinkling of sugar.
If you like to increase the flavour even further then add a splash of Maggi seasoning and some chopped dill to the dressing but the secret is to keep it simple and not over power the delicate flavour of the cucumber.
Also we like to peel the cucumber first and slice really thinly before adding the dressing.
Give it a try!
btw Aromat seasoning is available from Tesco but you might find it more difficult to find Maggi seasoning. If you know of a good source then drop us a note and we’ll add to the blog.
