The plot is a basic rectangle stretching approximately 150 metres from front to back and 22 metres wide. So essentially a long thin plot. The agent said it is approx half an acre including the bungalow and the land. It was originally much larger but the previous owner decided to hive off a chunck of the garden for his own use. Shame really as it would have given us extra space to put some livestock.
The property is a small three bed bungalow was built in the 50’s and has never really recovered. Much of this part of Hampshire is on chalk, in fact there’s only about six inches of topsoil before you hit the chalk layer! As a result the house has little in the way of foundations and so will need to come down. We plan to demolish it and build a 4 bed period style house built using sustainable materials. The design has yet to be finalised but we know we want to utilise technology and modern building techniques to create an super efficient and sustainable building for the future.
We were lucky to inherit a few trees and shrubs, but as you can see from the pics there’s little else on the plot to speak of. We have neighbours on both sides but essentially we are surrounded by Salisbury Plain which is home to the armed forces as well as Stonehenge of course. Attack helicopters fly over pretty much by the day which is a pretty formidable sight as they fly very low.
